The present book examines the Sufis' and mainly Ibn al-̔Arabī's approaches to the five pillars of Islam. A chapter of ritual purity is added, because this precept is a necessary condition for the implementation of some pillars. The Sufis' approaches to these precepts vacillate between acceptance and rejection. Their acceptance of the pillars is expressed in different ways; mystical , theological, philosophical and ethical considerations are introduced to explain the formal rites of the five pillars. Some Sufis assert that the formal performance of the rules of a certain pillar gives rise to mystical notions and experiences.

The book comprehensively examines the Sh‘ir magazine published in Beirut (1957-1964; 1967-1969). The magazine’s editors sought to generate a profound change in the role and form of Arabic poetry as a tool to support a significant leap forward in the Arab thinking and writing. The book traces the mechanism of development of the magazine’s content and the thinking of its main editors, through in-depth textual analysis of the three main branches of the magazine’s content: translated poetry, original Arabic poetry, and articles of literary criticism.

This book presents an in-depth study of the unique metaphors and the image of Baghdad, which play a prominent role in Farman's works, and hence paves the way to a better understanding of how this prolific writer coped with the predatory regime and his own inner world. The insights on the theme of exile in the book can also be applied on the lives of other intellectuals in the period in question, in and outside Iraq alike.

הספר מתחקה אחר קורותיו של רעיון המדינה האזרחית בשיח האינטלקטואלי המצרי מראשית המאה ה-20 ועד לעלייתו לשלטון של נשיאה הנוכחי של מצרים, עבד אל-פתאח אל-סיסי. הוא מצביע על תחנות מרכזיות בהתפתחותה של תפישה פוסט-חילונית זו, ועל הפרשנויות השונות ואף המנוגדות של המושג בפי קבוצות אידיאולוגיות מתחרות. מחלוקת זו, על צביונה של מצרים בין מדינה דתית לחילונית, טוענת המחברת, עומדת בבסיס התהפוכות השלטוניות שפקדו את מצרים לאחר "האביב הערבי" ומסבירה, בין היתר, את נפילתו של שלטון האחים המוסלמים לראשונה בתולדותיה של מצרים.

The book consists of a critical edition and the analysis of an early treatise in the field of Arabic grammar, based on two manuscripts located in England and Egypt. The work’s title is Mīzān al-ʿarabiyya which literally means ‘the balance, or scales, of Arabic.’ It is a pedagogical work dedicated to Arabic grammar and written by the famous Arabic grammarian Ibn al-ʾAnbārī (died 577/1181) who is probably best known for his al-ʾInṣāf fī masāʾil al-ḫilāf bayn al-naḥwiyyīn al-baṣriyyīn wa-l-kūfiyyīn, a collection of Streitfragen (controversial issues) attributed to the Baṣran and Kūfan grammarians.

הספר לנוע בין המרחבים: על הקול הנשי ביצירותיהן של סופרות ערביות בנות הדור החדש הוא פרי עבודתה של קבוצת המחקר "כתיבתן של סופרות ערביות צעירות" שפעלה במכון ון ליר בירושלים בשנים 2009–2011. משתתפות הקבוצה, חוקרות יהודיות וערביות מתחום הספרות הערבית המודרנית ומתחום המגדר, התמקדו ביצירותיהן של תשע סופרות בולטות בנות הדור החדש מהעולם הערבי: זינבּ חפני, הדיה חֻסֵין, שריפה אלשמלאן, היפאא' בּיטאר, פדׄילה אלפארוק, ליאנה בּדר, אחלאם מֻסתע'אנמי, סאמיה עטעוט וראויה בֻּרבּארה.

This book presents an in-depth literary analysis of the textual and non-textual elements of aḥadith al-ṣifat – the traditions that depict God and His attributes in an anthropomorphic language. It goes on to discuss the inner controversies in the prominent traditionalistic learning centres of the Islamic world regarding the way to understand and interpret these anthropomorphic traditions. Through a close, contextualized, and interdisciplinary reading in Hadith compilations, theological treatises, and historical sources, this book offers an evaluation and understanding of the traditionalistic endeavours to define anthropomorphism in the most crucial and indeed most formative period of Islamic thought.

המשוררת פדוא טוקאן (1917-2003) והסופרת סחר ח'ליפה (1942) הן שתי כותבות פלסטיניות פוריות וחשובות שכתיבתן הפכה לסמל של מאבק פמיניסטי ולאומי. ספר זה עוסק בכתיבה האוטוביוגרפית של השתיים אשר ממחישות בכתיבתן את הזיקה בין המאבק הלאומי-חברתי למאבק הנשי. שתיהן מתארות את מאבקה של האישה להגשמה עצמית. במרכזו של הספר דיון ספרותי-תיאורטי לצד ניתוח תמטי ופואטי של מגוון מיצירותיהן של טוקאן וח'ליפה.
